Gentle care protects silk’s smooth surface, drape, and lasting beauty. Always follow the sewn-in care label first, because construction, dyes, trims, and finishes can require product-specific handling.
Washing
- Use cool water and a detergent formulated for silk or delicate fibers.
- Select a gentle cycle only when the care label allows machine washing.
- Place smaller items in a mesh laundry bag and wash with similar colors.
- Do not use chlorine bleach, harsh stain removers, or fabric softener.
- Avoid rubbing, twisting, or wringing wet silk.
Drying
Reshape gently and dry flat or hang away from direct sunlight and strong heat. Do not tumble dry unless the care label specifically permits it.
Ironing and steaming
Use the lowest suitable setting and work from the reverse side with a clean pressing cloth. A gentle steamer can release wrinkles when permitted. Keep concentrated heat away from delicate trims.
Storage
Store silk clean, completely dry, and away from direct light. Use breathable storage rather than sealed plastic for long periods. Fold bedding loosely and rotate fold lines occasionally.
Spills and stains
Blot rather than rub and seek professional cleaning for difficult stains. Test any treatment on a hidden area first.
